On Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at 2 p.m., the Zwaanendael Museum, located at 102 Kings Highway in Lewes, DE 19958, will celebrate Dutch-American Heritage Day with a program on Sinterklaas, the traditional holiday figure of the Netherlands, and patron saint of mariners and the city of Amsterdam. The program will feature Dutch-born Jonathan De Jonge, a scholar at Temple University, who will portray the jolly white-bearded figure in a red coat who brings gifts for children. On Sunday Nov. 4, 2012 at 2 p.m., the New Castle Court House Museum, located at 211 Delaware St., New Castle, DE 19720, will present Dutch-American Heritage, a lecture by historic-site interpreter Thomas Pulmano on the history of Swanendael, established in 1631 in present-day Lewes; and a later Dutch expedition in 1651 which build Fort Casimir at present-day New Castle.

Sinterklaas already informed us that he will visit the children living in New York area before he travels on his steam boat to the Netherlands. He also asked me to invite the children to prepare a short performance for him. Children start practising now!

Marion de Vos and Lodewijk Ouwens perform from their new poetry collection. Marion de Vos just finished "Riverside Collections" and published in 2011 "Heartscapes". Lodewijk Ouwens wrote "Wespenverdrinken en Geel Cellofaan". Poems will be performed in Dutch and English. This is a free event and everybody is welcome.

The Netherland Club of New York and the Dutch political parties D66, PvdA, VVD and CDA kindly invite you to attand this special event. A conversation with Alexander Rinnooy Kan promises to shed light on many different aspects of the Dutch political and cultural landscape. Alexander Rinnooy Kan is a Dutch mathematician and business leader. It's time for a meet-up! So, let's get together to celebrate Dutch-American Heritage Day (DAHD) which has been set for 16 Nov.  So, please take note that we are holding this meet-up on Friday instead of Wednesday.

                                                   Our Dutch meetup walk along the beach takes place once a month, on the first Sunday, at 10:00 am. We'll start off at the boardwalk near the location of the rollercoaster and the castle-like structure of Hamel's Surfshop (704 Ventura Place, San Diego, CA 92109).  We'll wait for 10 minutes to give everyone an opportunity to locate the start of the walk.
