Sierra Village, Inc., located in the heart of California's Central Valley, is a Christian retirement community.
The windmill is the first thing you notice about Sierra Village. You can see its sails turning gracefully from a long distance away.
Inside the mill is a coffee house where you will find residents and friends gathered daily at 10 a.m. and again at 3 p.m. for coffee and fellowship.
Informal coffee time at the mill makes it very easy for new residents to become acquainted with others living in the village. You will also find them gathered here for the weekly "game day."
The windmill building is 46 feet tall, with a base that is 26 feet in diameter. Inside is an eight sided room that functions as an informal coffee house for residents. The motor-driven sails are 65 feet in diameter, weigh 9,000 pounds, and rotate approximately 3.5 revolutions per minute. The design concept was done by Dutch Architect Jan VanGaale and was adapted by EBM Design in Visalia to meet local requirements. It was built by Bothof Construction. The Mill has become a Visalia landmark and is visible from the highway as you enter Visalia.
